The 2009 data breach hall of shame

If there was anything even vaguely comforting about the data breaches that were
announced this year it was the fact that many of them stemmed from familiar and
downright mundane security failures.

Adobe won't patch latest PDF zero-day until Jan. 12

Chinese ISP hosts 1 in 7 Conficker infections

Security experts have known for months that some countries have had a harder
time battling the Conficker worm than others. But thanks to data released
Wednesday by Shadowserver, a volunteer-run organization, they now have a better
idea of which Internet Service Providers have the biggest problem.

Patch Management Made Easy with WSUS 3.0 SP2

One of the challenges that comes with running a network is keeping your
operating systems patched and secure. In response to this problem, Microsoft has
released Windows Server Update Service 3.0 SP2 as a means to centrally download
updates and control how they are deployed to the computers throughout your
network. Additionally, WSUS provides extensive reporting features to quickly
give you a snapshot of your computers' status. If your network is big enough to
have a server and use Active Directory, it's big enough to benefit from using
WSUS.

Kansas businessman gets prison for E-Rate fraud

A former owner of three Kansas computer service companies has been sentenced to
57 months in prison for his role in a conspiracy to defraud the federal E-Rate
program, which provides broadband funding for schools and libraries in poor
areas, and for making a false statement to the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development (HUD).

Data Loss Protection and Your CRM System

Information Leak Prevention (also known as Data Loss Protection) is a fairly
well established area for security software, but most of the marketing noise is
about protecting financial system data from unauthorized access or transmission.
Why is this functionality so important for a CRM system?
